I have for a long time wondered if Hitler is a Psychopath and also how is it that all those people allowed themselves to "follow" this evil line of behavior i.e. concentration camps are a good place to start a list in this case. Since I looked into this ages ago, I had a nice surprise when I found it buried in my bookmarks: )

A Psychologial Profile of Adolph Hitler

This work by Alice Miller is what helped me to understand why these normally rational people went along and aided in these atrocoties.

Adolf Hitler: How Could a Monster Succeed in Blinding a Nation?

By Alice Miller, Ph.D.

while it's routine to see the word "psychopath" linked with AH, few actually
know that he was formally diagnosed as such in WW I by an army psychiatrist.

this recent info can be downloaded for $25 at:

http://journalsip.astm.org/JOURNALS/FORENSIC/PAGES/3053.htm

the article is sparse wrt the Psychopath side of things. it focusses more on a hypnotic
suggestion that he would self-cure his hysterical blindness with messaniac
powers. the article self-flagellates a bit, wondering if the suggestion, which
was routine treatment at the time somehow created the evil Mr. H. lots of
others received the same suggestion, but didn't run amok.

Dr. Edmund Forster was picked up by the Gestapo for his efforts. records show
he committed suicide after after 34 days of interrogation.

exposing Psychopath's is dangerous work.

Thanks for very much starting this subject as I am reading Mein Kampf with great interestt at the moment and finding traits in Hitler that I have noticed in my husband. It is interesting how he rewrites history in many of his faulty memories. I was hoping to find a psychological profile on Hitler so am pleased to find one here.

Hi Mati, great to see you. I had researched Hitler so long ago when I was looking into Psychopaths, guess it was fate I was cleaning out a mess of bookmarks and found some info again (gives you some idea of how long cleaning my bookmarks took), lol.

I sincerely hope you are doing well.

Di

I plan to download that article White Knight published later this week and will try to offer some quotes. Due to copyright laws I can't publish the entire work but will try my best to sort it out.

Thanks Di

It never ends, I have lost contact just about completely with my sons now as they say that they cannot cope with contact with me due to having too much to deal with, trying to come off methadone.

I am puzzled with a few things regarding Hitler, in that he spent a time in abject poverty. I wonder why he was not able to secure himself some income at that time. He also maintained a long term relationship with a woman and was not a known womaniser. It is certainly interesting looking at these things. Did you feel that he was a typical Psychopath?

Hi Mati, I have pondered this subject for quite a long time and still cannot reach any firm conclusions in my mind, maybe reading that analysis will help. Hitler certainly had many issues or so it appeared sexually. I read somewhere that his real father was probably Jewish. It seems like I have also read about his addiction to meth.

I need to go back and read all this material again, I am glad you want to discuss it since it has always been on my mind for so many years, I am a bit faulty on my recall now, not only about Hitler himself but how he got an entire nation to engage in such horrific actions (I think Alice Miller clears up that piece of the puzzle. In my mind, he was certainly evil but beyond that I can't come up with any clear idea.

I will download that piece later today so we can try and keep putting the pieces of this puzzle today.

Dear Di

What puzzles me is, anyone reading Mein Kampf, can spot pathological traits straight away. As the book was available for quite a long time before the second world war, and I pressume psychologists read it, why was there not a great deal of reaction to it? I am finding the book heavy going but am determined to get through it to enable me to understand the man. Perhaps one can be evil without the usual psychopath profile.
